Target Audience: Seniors in the Burundian community
Introduction
This workshop was the second in a series organized to raise awareness about mental health among older adults in the Burundian community. The main objective of this session was to develop strategies to improve the mental health of immigrant older adults, taking into account the specific challenges they face.
Workshop schedule
The workshop began with a presentation by Reginald Alexis, physiotherapist, who reviewed the issues discussed during the first session and introduced the themes of the day:

The importance of mental health for the overall well-being of older adults.

Factors influencing the mental health of immigrant seniors (culture shock, language barriers, social isolation, lack of access to appropriate care).

Practical strategies to strengthen mental health:

Strengthening social and community ties.

Physical activity and its benefits for mental well-being.

Access to psychological support services.

Relaxation and stress management practices.

Interactions and discussions
Participants shared their personal experiences and exchanged tips on strategies that have helped them better manage daily challenges. The importance of community in maintaining good mental health was emphasized.
Snacks
Snacks were served to the participants, providing a moment of conviviality and informal exchanges between the seniors and the speaker.
Conclusion and recommendations
The workshop highlighted the need to create regular discussion spaces to support the mental health of immigrant seniors. Participants expressed interest in future meetings to explore these topics further and put the strategies discussed into practice.
