Activity Overview
On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, RAFIO, in partnership with Mosaïque interculturelle, organized a youth meeting as part of a project aimed at facilitating the socio-cultural integration of young immigrants in Ottawa.
The objective of this activity was to present various opportunities available to young people in the city of Ottawa while encouraging exchange, learning, and social integration.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Apollinaire, Ms. Aïssatou, and Ms. Antoinette Irarera, with a special participation from Ms. Nicole Baptiste, Executive Director of Mosaïque Interculturelle.
The meeting took place in a warm, welcoming, and participatory atmosphere. The youth showed strong interest and active engagement throughout the discussions and activities.
Activities Conducted
Several presentations and discussions were organized during the session, including:
A presentation of sports and recreational activities offered by the City of Ottawa;
Practical guidance on applying for summer jobs;
Information on first aid training opportunities;
An overview of free cultural visits available in Ottawa museums;
A debrief on an educational visit to the Canadian Senate;
Discussions and advice for youth interested in careers in public institutions and politics.
Participants also shared a meal and engaged in informal networking in a relaxed and welcoming environment, helping strengthen connections among youth.
Participation and Feedback
The youth actively participated in the discussions and activities. The exchanges were enriching, motivating, and inspiring.
Participants expressed appreciation for the practical information shared, as well as the networking and sharing opportunities provided during the meeting. The presence of facilitators and the special guest was also highly appreciated.
Closing of the Activity
The activity ended in a positive and friendly atmosphere. Participants continued informal discussions while sharing their goals and future aspirations.
Organizers also announced the next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, 2025, to continue integration and support activities for youth.
Conclusion
This fourth RAFIO meeting on integration and opportunities for youth allowed participants to discover various resources and opportunities available in Ottawa to support their social, cultural, and professional integration.
The engagement of the youth and the quality of the discussions demonstrate the importance of continuing such community initiatives to support young immigrants in their journey and promote their full participation in Canadian society.
