Activity Background

As part of its initiatives to promote inclusion, diversity, and community resilience, RAFIO organized an intercultural dialogue workshop entitled “Building Bridges and Bringing People Together” on September 19, 2026.

The activity brought together members from different communities in a space that encouraged dialogue, active listening, sharing experiences, and mutual understanding.

The workshop was part of an ongoing effort to create safe and inclusive spaces where participants could discuss their experiences, better understand cultural differences, and collectively explore ways to strengthen relationships within the community.

Activity Overview

The workshop took place in a welcoming, respectful, and engaging atmosphere. Participants were invited to share their experiences and perspectives while demonstrating openness and listening to the realities experienced by others.

Discussions focused on several key topics, including:

  • The diversity of participants’ experiences and backgrounds;

  • Discovering and understanding different cultures;

  • Perceptions and prejudices that may exist between communities;

  • The importance of dialogue in reducing misunderstandings;

  • Ways to promote a more inclusive and respectful society;

  • The importance of building connections rather than allowing differences to become barriers.

Discussions on Prejudice and Diversity

Particular attention was given to reflecting on prejudice and perceptions of people from different communities.

The discussions highlighted the importance of getting to know one another better to encourage mutual understanding. Intercultural dialogue was presented as a practical way to challenge certain perceptions, reduce barriers, and build relationships based on respect.

Participants were also encouraged to reflect on the role each person can play in building a more inclusive, supportive, and welcoming community.

Participation and Feedback

The participation of attendees contributed to the success and richness of the activity. Discussions took place in an atmosphere of openness, active listening, and mutual respect.

The workshop provided an opportunity for community connection, cultural discovery, and collective reflection. Participants were able to share their experiences while discovering different cultural perspectives.

The diversity of viewpoints expressed enriched the discussions and reinforced the importance of maintaining spaces for dialogue within the community.

This activity was made possible in part through the support of the Government of Canada, as part of initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion, combating hate, and strengthening community resilience.

Conclusion

The “Building Bridges and Bringing People Together” workshop provided an important opportunity for dialogue and connection among different communities.

Through active listening, sharing experiences, and collective reflection, participants were able to recognize that cultural differences can be a source of strength and an opportunity for mutual learning.

This activity reinforces the importance of continuing to create spaces where everyone can feel heard, respected, and included, and where dialogue can help replace barriers with bridges between communities.

RAFIO remains committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, solidarity, and community resilience.
