Report of the Event: Third RAFIO Support Program Meeting

Theme: Understanding healthy relationships and preventing violence in dating relationships

Activity Overview

On Friday, February 28, 2025, RAFIO, in partnership with Service Familial et Counseling Ottawa (SFC Ottawa), organized the third meeting of the Support Program for Black Francophone adolescents who are survivors of dating violence.

The activity, facilitated by Olivier and Annie Victoire, aimed to raise awareness among youth about the characteristics of healthy relationships and help them recognize signs of unhealthy or toxic relationships.

The meeting took place in a warm, respectful, and collaborative atmosphere. The youth demonstrated strong openness, engagement, and participation throughout the discussions and activities.

Activities Carried Out

Several educational and interactive activities were organized during the session, including:

• Discussions on respect, trust, and communication in relationships;

• Case studies illustrating the importance of understanding, listening, and empathy;

• Separate group discussions (girls and boys) allowing participants to share personal testimonies and coping strategies for dealing with violence;

• Practical advice on how to recognize, avoid, and leave toxic relationships.

These activities allowed youth to share their experiences, reflect on relationship dynamics, and gain tools to strengthen their self-esteem and resilience.

Participation and Feedback

Participants actively engaged in the discussions and exercises. The exchanges were enriching, respectful, and marked by solidarity.

The youth expressed appreciation for the safe and supportive space provided during the meeting. Several participants highlighted the importance of being able to openly discuss their experiences and receive advice tailored to their realities.

Closing of the Activity

The activity ended in a positive and friendly atmosphere. The youth continued informal discussions, further strengthening bonds between participants and facilitators.

The organizers also encouraged the youth to continue actively participating in upcoming program meetings to further their learning and discussions.

Conclusion

This third meeting of the RAFIO Support Program allowed youth to better understand the foundations of healthy relationships and develop strategies to recognize and prevent situations of violence in dating relationships.

The engagement of participants and the quality of exchanges demonstrate the relevance and positive impact of this program in supporting and guiding Black Francophone adolescents within the community.
