Event Report: Fifth Youth Meeting – Dating Violence

Activity Overview

On Friday, March 14, 2025, RAFIO, in partnership with Service Familial et Counseling Ottawa (SFC Ottawa), organized a youth meeting aimed at Black Francophone adolescents.

The objective of this activity was to raise awareness among young people about different forms of violence in romantic relationships and to promote healthy, respectful, and balanced relationships.

The session took place in an open, respectful, and participatory atmosphere. The youth showed strong interest and active engagement throughout the discussions and activities.

Activities Conducted

Several educational and interactive activities were organized during the session, including:

• Discussions on different forms of violence, including physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, and financial abuse;

• Exchanges on the characteristics of healthy relationships, including respect, trust, and communication;

• Practical guidance on how to recognize, avoid, and leave toxic relationships;

• Testimonials and interactive games encouraging participation and reflection.

These activities helped participants better understand relationship dynamics and develop tools to protect their emotional and physical well-being.

Participation and Feedback

Participants actively engaged in discussions and activities. The exchanges were rich, open, and constructive.

The youth expressed appreciation for the safe space provided, as well as the opportunity to openly discuss topics that are often considered taboo. Some participants also suggested adding more interactive elements such as music and games to make future sessions even more engaging.

Closing of the Activity

The session ended in a positive and friendly atmosphere. Participants continued informal discussions, strengthening connections among them.

The organizers announced the next meeting scheduled for March 21, 2025, at RAFIO, inviting youth to continue participating in the program.

Conclusion

This fifth session on dating violence helped youth develop a better understanding of healthy relationships and risky behaviors.

The participants’ engagement and the quality of discussions demonstrate the importance of continuing these awareness initiatives to support youth in their personal and relational development.
