Event Report: Second Meeting of the Youth Support Program

Theme: Second meeting of the support program for Black Francophone teenage girls and boys who are survivors of dating violence

Activity Overview

On Friday, February 21, 2025, RAFIO, in partnership with Service Familial et Counseling Ottawa (SFC Ottawa), organized the second meeting of the support program for Black Francophone adolescents who are survivors of dating violence.

The activity was facilitated by Olivier, Alain, Annie Victoire, as well as Ms. Antoinette Irarera, Executive Director of RAFIO. The purpose of this meeting was to strengthen connections among participants, continue discussions initiated during the first meeting, and present the next steps of the program.

The evening took place in a warm, dynamic, and participatory atmosphere. The youth demonstrated openness, enthusiasm, and strong engagement throughout the activities.

Activities Conducted

Several interactive activities and discussion moments were organized during the evening, including:

• A film and music screening to initiate discussions;

• An icebreaker activity aimed at strengthening bonds and collective memory;

• Distribution of hair salon vouchers promised to participants;

• A reminder of the program’s objectives and expectations for upcoming meetings.

During the discussions, the youth shared several ideas and suggestions for future activities. They expressed particular interest in:

• case studies;

• interactive games;

• activities involving cards, checkers, and chess.

These activities and discussions allowed the youth to actively participate, share their opinions, and contribute to the evolution of the program.

Participation and Feedback

Participants actively engaged in the discussions and activities. The exchanges were enriching, inspiring, and respectful.

The youth expressed satisfaction with the welcoming atmosphere of the meeting, as well as the listening and support provided by facilitators and organizers. Their enthusiasm for upcoming sessions reflects the positive impact of the program.

Closing of the Activity

The activity ended in a positive and motivating atmosphere. Participants had the opportunity to continue informal discussions and strengthen the bonds formed within the group.

The organizers also reminded participants of the next meeting scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at RAFIO offices.

Conclusion

This second meeting of the support program helped strengthen relationships among youth participants and continue building a safe space that promotes listening, expression, and mutual support.

The engagement of the youth, their ideas, and their active participation demonstrate the relevance of this program and the importance of continuing community-based initiatives tailored to the needs of Black Francophone adolescents who are survivors of dating violence.
